Carmen (guest at the RUTA festival Ljubljana, Slovenia)

February 4 @ 20:00 - 21:25

Miguel Delibes (1920–2010) was a Spanish novelist and member of the Royal Spanish Academy, a multiple winner of awards and recognitions including the Nadal Prize, the Prince of Asturias Prize, and the Cervantes Prize.

He is considered one of the most important authors of the 20th century. He is known for his works: The Hunter's Diary (for which he received the National Prize for Literature), The Red Leaf (Juan Marsh Foundation Prize), The Rats (Critics' Prize), The Heretic (Winner of the National Prize for Literature), etc. His masterpiece stands out in particular: Five Hours with Mario, published in 1966, which represents a faithful exponent of social realism, a very important literary trend in Spain in the middle of the last century.

Through the inner dialogue of a woman in crisis – Carmen, its protagonist – Delibes, revealed most of the constant political and social tensions of that time in Spain. It is not for nothing that his masterpiece Five Hours with Mario falls within his list of “the hundred best novels of the twentieth century”.
